Position: Digital Asset Archivist
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Digital Asset Archivist to manage and preserve our organization's digital assets within the field of Library and Information Science. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of archival principles and practices, along with technical expertise in digital preservation and management systems. As a Digital Asset Archivist, you will play a vital role in organizing, classifying, and maintaining digital collections to ensure long-term accessibility, usability, and authenticity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for the acquisition, organization, preservation, and management of digital assets.
- Create and maintain accurate and detailed metadata records for digital resources, adhering to established professional standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize digitization projects, ensuring efficient resource allocation and timely completion.
- Assess and select appropriate digital preservation technologies, tools, and platforms to optimize access, storage, and retrieval of digital assets.
- Perform regular quality checks and audits on digital collections to ensure integrity, authenticity, and adherence to preservation standards.
- Develop and document policies and procedures to guide the digital asset management lifecycle, including ingest, storage, retrieval, and disposal.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in digital asset management and preservation to enhance workflows and processes.
- Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on digital archiving best practices, including file formats, metadata standards, and copyright compliance.
- Collaborate with external partners, such as content creators, vendors, and digitization services, to ensure seamless integration of digital assets into the organization's systems.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of long-term preservation strategies for born-digital and digitized materials.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Library and Information Science, Archival Studies, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of archival principles, practices, and standards, including digital preservation and metadata standards (e.g., OAIS, Dublin Core, PREMIS).
- Proficiency in digital asset management systems (DAMS), content management systems (CMS), and related tools.
- Familiarity with digital file formats, media storage systems, and digital preservation software.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Proven ability to adapt to changing technological landscapes and embrace new digital preservation practices.
- Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property regulations related to digital assets.
- Previous experience in digital archiving, preferably in a library, museum, or cultural heritage institution, is highly desirable.
